Operates in the 5GHz band.

Front end will be switchable between the Hiperlan and NII bands as the regulatory posiiton is not currently clear.

We are aiming for a 25Mbit/s raw bit-rate. Current estimates suggest that a usable ATM bit-rate of 80-90% of this will be acheivable.

The physical layer uses a number of directional antennas on both the base and mobile. At 5GHz it is believed that reasonable variations in the antenna propagation can be achieved sufficient to make antenna diversity succesful.

It is expected that we can achieve the target range of up to 30metres in-building with a transmission power of around 10mwatts.

The physical layer wll have a low carrier interference performance which will allow us to improve the cell re-use performance.

And the required preamble will be very short. A requirement and assumption implicit in some of the design decisions for the MAC.
