These are some of the results of a coverage trial we have been running. The diagram shows the three floors of the ORL building which is about 40 metres in length.

The base-station is located in a fairly optimal position in the corridor on the middle floor. The red regions are regions of more than 90% cell reception and the black areas regions of no coverage.

The diagram shows the wave-guide effect of the corridor and shows that the coverage is close to the 10metre range that we required.

In practice the range of is limited by the number of walls through which the signal passes with around about 3 giving reasonable coverage.

The limitation of range seems to be the sensitivity of the receiver - we do not see radically different results for different transmission rates.
