VMR - Video Mail Retrieval

The laboratory was an industrial partner of the Video Mail Retrieval (VMR) project. Academic partners were the Computer Laboratory and the Engineering Department in the University of Cambridge. The project was sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Department of Trade and Industry. The project sought to integrate state-of-the-art text retrieval methods with high-performance word spotting to yield a robust and efficient video mail retrieval system. A specific goal was the development of a practical retrieval system to work with Medusa, a high-bandwidth multimedia environment in daily use.
