DART: Texture Analysis

Texture Analysis

Below is a picture of palm trees and the results of applying string texture analysis to it.

Different colours represent different orientations of the string feature.

Histograms of local string orientation may be used as a texture representation for the internal properties of regions. Variation in colour within a region may be represented with a colour histogram or with a series of colour cluster centres and weights. The latter approach is more economical on memory as only positive colour information is stored.

The above colour and texture information may be combined with the edge based region segmentation to give coloured and textured regions. Neighbouring regions are merged if they have similar colour and texture properties.
