Computer Architecture

Computer architecture was an area of interest in the early days of the laboratory. In one project, the use of snoopy caches in a multiprocessor arrangement was simulated. The study compared multiple versus wide shared bus multiprocessor architectures.

A project conducted jointly with the Cavendish Laboratory, investigated a method of fabricating multichip modules. Electron beam lithography was used to locate and interconnect chips mounted in silicon motherboards.
